Regulation changes from @acemonline: trainee selection and 3 exam attempts

ACEM recently released updated regulations governing ACEM specialist training (you all know these back to front, I imagine). These form Regulation B, which clearly defines all of the requirements for trainees to complete at each stage of training. Gone is the 4.10 research requirement, now known as the B4 research requirement.

Make sure you use the online version in the Policies and Guidelines page as your reference point - this will be kept up to date with any changes.

Following on, this week's bulletin notes 2 upcoming changes booked for commencement in 2018:

  • The number of attempts at each exam will be limited to THREE
    • That is 3 attempts at each of the primary written, primary viva, fellowship written and fellowship viva
    • If you have already attempted these exams prior to this rule coming into action, those attempts will not be counted in the 3
    • Read the details and FAQ
  • Potential trainees will be selected into the provisional training stage
    • Currently a selection process only occurs after provisional training (via structured references, etc)
    • This change will see selection criteria being applied to enter training
    • Details of the revised selection criteria and process will be developed over the next few months
